Where are the best wifi hot spots in Belize? Do they block voip connections, skype, etc?
A good Wifi spot would be to go sit in or outside your local library if you have one, also hotels tend to have wifi internet so you could also go sit by a hotel, and if you also have any cafes there, they usually have wifi internet where you could go in there, and as long as you order something like even a simple coffee, they will let you sit there.

Well Sammy you still failed to answer Sim Bartson's inquiry on to where can you find the best wifi hotspot in Belize. I believe he is inquiring about names or known establishments in Belize that offers wifi hot spots and not some general and contextual thingy answer.

If there are any Starbucks Cafe in Belize then I believe that is one of those internet hot spots. Well, who am I to say, try going out and looking for "wifi enabled" or "wifi access here" posters or ask the reception desk if they are offering wifi access, that is the best possible action you can take rather than relying on uncertain response from the forums. Just a suggestion.

I know that cafes and librarys are always a good place for a wifi connection.

You speak from experience in BELIZE?

A friend told me that in the future people won't be needing to look for wifi hotspots specially when the HSDPA technology gets widely implemented in all major regions of a country. That technology also promises to give up to 20 Mbps or more in the future. Pretty cool hhuh?
Reply #7 Jimmy from New York -
*IF* and *WHEN* it works as advertised. Most of the HSDPA systems seem to operate way over capacity and with much less geographic coverage than claimed. So you are often lucky if the 1Mbps service offers you something comparable to dial up.
I agree with the above post there. Sure those HSDPA systems would claim that they do have coverage systems in the place you are located. Why? Because they are not dumb...If they do not tell you that then you will not have their service right? So if you want to have wifi hot spots then go for those establishments offering or claiming to have wifi, but you should consider some penny for fees there.

Interesting how Lenny is attacking Sammy yet he himself cannot offer any good advice. Am curious about how those cafes operate; does it mean that as long as I buy coffee, I can browse the net for as long as I want? The only way we will know both the merits and demerits of HSPDA is when they roll into operation. Our eagerness alone is not enough

We may not speak from experience from Belize, but like others have said before, your best bet for WiFi hot spots is definitely in a library or coffee shop.

Hi! Here´s some ideas...Hope they help:Almond Beach Resort, Stann Creek District, Belize Stellar Links, Corozal, Belize The Butterfly Spa, Dangriga Town, Belize They all offer wifi service, Take care

Garth, I concur with you completely...then there have to be those cafes that really stand out from the rest. Even when not speaking from experience, what do you normally look out for when checking out a Wifi spot?I still feel a library is better off than a coffee shop though you can mostly find them in airports, RV parks and so on

Yeah library have wifi access but most people prefer to have their wifi experience more exciting rather than to just sit on a library stool. Well it actually depends on who wants it, where he wants it right? So lets just provide answers to questions... >Wi-FiHotSpotList.com is the leading resource for finding wireless access points around the world. Thousands of Wi-Fi HotSpot locations are listed and new sites are added daily.

Totally concur with you vino..we have varied likes and preferences. Perhaps sitting on a library stool works for someone else. The High-Speed Downlink Packet Access(HSDPA)seems likely to change the face of IT. It is a new protocol for mobile telephone data transmission. Known as 3.5 G, G standing for generation, it will provide download speeds on a mobile equivalent to an ASDL(Assymetric Digital Subscriber Line)thereby getting rid of limitations placed in the use of the phone by a slow connection

My experience with HSDPA services is they are oversold: over sold in terms of the coverage areas and you are likely to get stuck with GSM, ie: slow service when you though you were getting fast. Also oversold as in more customers than the network can support the result being slow service. If the carriers can provide a network to support the demand for bandwidth there is potential.

Don't attack me guys, for being stupid, but here's something I have DONE in the Dominican Republic:Just go to a nicer, richer looking area in town or to a commercial zone, turn on your lap-top and scan for wifi signal. When you find one, try getting in without a password. You wouldn't believe how many houses or shops have wifi without a password. It helps if you have a good battery. Then surf!

Maybe one of them is a trap setup to steal your data (or their neighbors data).... I noticed 4 years ago that most of the wifi connections in my neighborhood were open. Now, most are closed.

True Jimmy, you would think that you are the best beneficiary when 'stealing' a connection but end up being the biggest loser too. Since you cannot tell when you are really safe, it is better to take precaution. Most products and services are usually oversold. It would take an informed and equally demanding customer base to seal the loopholes that exist in the HSDPA sector. I hope major changes occue son.

Information Technology, unlike what many people presume it to be, is an interesting field. What I do realize is that it would help fix simple tasks that we normally have a third party handle for us. If am not wrong, nothing about blockage of VoIp connections have been mentioned. It seems the best bargain is in hotels as I found out by looking at this site.

hi all, while being in Corozal Belize, we visited a internet cafe called Stellar Links (apparently also an ISP in that part of the country) and found out that Skype and VoIP calling worked PERFECTLY!!! So amazed were we that we returned every day for the time we were there and used their services. Also, the prices were great!!!B regs, josh
